No, you don't need a visa to visit Venezuela. I am born and raised in Venezuela, but moved to Denmark a few years ago. I must advice you to give as little information in the form you get in the plane. Just say you're going from vacation, to visit a relative. Don't take high priced objects, like expensive camera equipment or cameras, and so, because you might get charged a fee. Also, be careful with bringing food and medicine. You might have a hard time with the airport security, if you seem suspicious. The airport security in Caracas are usually quite corrupt, so be careful... if they have to open your luggage, because they see something suspicious, then keep a close eye on what they do. A friend of mine got his Ipod stolen, by the airport security. If your final destination is Caracas, then you're free to go, but if you have to get a local connection flight, to another state, then don't leave the airport. I once made this mistake, when travelling to Margarita (where I used to live), there is a tunnel inside the airport, that brings you safely to the other side. Also, when you get to the local airport, you might have a hard time with the airline employees, most of them don't speak any English at all, and be sure to be there at least 2 hours before your planes departure. If there's an English speaking person there, then you're in luck, so you get the right directions. I hope that helps.
You do not need a visa ahead of time. A reliable source is the U.S. State Department. See the link belowl
The easiest way to get a correct answer to this question is by calling your airline. I understand that as a tourist for a short visit -, if you carry a USA passport, you will not need a visa.
I am an American citizen traveling to Venezuela in July to visit a friend, will I need to get a visa ahead of time or do I even need one? I heard you get one on the plane there but I would really like a reliable source to tell me. Thank you!
