be kind, and others will treat you kindly
bargaining is big in peru so be prepared to bargain for what ever you want
During Christmas I am going with a volunteer group to the Netherlands (the part where the "less fortunate" live) to teach kids Spanish, build homes for homeless, drug addicts, prostitutes, etc etc and apart from the basic stuff we've been told is there anything I should look out for? Anything I should see? Experience?
We will be staying in Amsterdam (We're also going to The Hague)
Cuzco is a beautiful landscape and getting used to the high altitude will make this experience unique. The poor in that region are nice, their poverty relays on living much like in the 17th century with scarce Technological Appliances, they don't starve to death like in Africa and they still make their houses whit the same materials as 200 years ago (no concrete).
So education is important to prepare them for a better future. They get a lot of information from local TV and Radio, but it's mostly yellowish gossip rather than quality education.
You'll enjoy our diverse culture and food.
Just go with an open mind. Take in all the colors, the smells, the flavors. It won't all be good or nice or tasty but you shouldn't miss out on any of it!
take plenty of common sense with you and you will be fine. Hope you have a blast!
