Mom is kind of at fault here as well.
You guys should not have sent the shoes - or paid for shipping - until this was paid for - in full - including the shipping costs - first.
And you don't choose and pay this kind of shipping costs without an agreement from the buyer that the buyer wants overnight shipping and pays for it - first.
You don't assume the buyer will just pay you back. I'm sure many buyers would not have agreed to $110 shipping charges. You find out how much shipping is and include that in your description when you advertise. Buyer needs to agree - and pay - for both shipping and the item. First.
So mom should not have just shipped it out like that. If buyer did not agree upfront to that - then buyer probably has every right to not pay it.
So yes, you tell mom the money is not there. Have no clue what you are lying about. If it's not there - it's not there.
So likely this buyer is not necessarily a scammer. Did buyer pay for the shoes and the only issue is the shipping charges?
Again, if buyer did not agree to the overnight shipping at that amount - then not likely you can make the person pay for it. It was mom's choice to ship this way and really - she should have known better than to expect someone to pay for this after the fact. You guys should have made sure the buyer wanted this and not assumed it would be ok with the buyer.
So, hopefully, mom won't be mad at you. She should really be mad at herself.
When selling stuff online - one doesn't make assumptions about this kind of thing. Everything needs to be very clear between buyer and seller.
Think of it this way - if you were the buyer and told after the fact that you had to pay this amount in shipping and you hadn't agreed to it - and maybe didn't even want overnight delivery - wouldn't you not want to pay it? Buyer may report you as a scammer.
Whoever you reported it to is not going to rule on your side - if you did not make these charges clear from the beginning. If you guys just decided to do it this way without informing the buyer and getting the buyer's agreement first. Not to mention getting paid for it first.
Also, if you are 14 - you cannot be on PayPal.
Tell your mom the truth, call your local police department and file a report. I believe they will assign a detective in the fraud/cyber crime division, either from the local FBI's office or from their office and investigate it. You should also call PayPal and explain what happened and they should investigate it too and when the investigations complete, they should give you a full refund.
Another lie will not get you out of trouble. It will just get you into bigger trouble.
When will you kids use common sense and realise that being honest solves the problem.
Tell your mom the truth
A few weeks back, i was scammed on paypal. I sent out these shoes that I was selling and the person didnt clear/send the money to my account. When we shipped the shoes out, my mom paid $110 up front for overnight shipping because we thought the guy was just going to pay it back. ( The shoes were $185). I was suppose to transfer the $110 back to her account but its not there. Tomorrow after she gets off of work she wants to go on paypal with me to see the money. SHOULD I JUST TELL MY MOM THE TRUTH AND GET IN THE MOST TROUBLE OR COME UP WITH ANOTHER LIE ?!?! HELP PLEASE YOU GUYS ?!?!?
P.S. I have already reported the scammer , also im 14 you guys
