Answer it. If they ask for you, say that, " Who? They're not at this residence... I've had this number for a little over 7 years...." trust me. Something along those lines.... this happened to me way to often... I answer in Russian, hand the phone to my best friend (she speaks French), or give it to any near male to deal with. ^___^ if its an answering machine, they'll stop after you pick up. Or try to call them back.
Hope this helped, if even a little. :) best of luck.
See if you can get a different number from Virgin. If not, I suggest you just keep your phone off and tell important people to call an alternate number. Or if you're feeling jaunty you can troll the advertisers with some false situations and such.

Call Virgin Mobile customer service at 1-888-322-1122 to speak to a representative about blocking a number on your phone. http://www.virginmobileusa.com/help-supp...
If it's an android phone, I believe that the Avast Anti-Theft app (free) has a call blocking feature. It's worth a try!
You have no choice but to change phone numbers, soon they will sell your number at a cheap price to other people who will do the same
