How do non-selling websites or non-advertising websites earn money?

This all depends on what the owner of the site is doing with the site. You can work with affiliate programs to put ads on the site, or links within the text that you are writing. The other thing that you can do is put advertising on the site from Google, or Bing. This will pay you for every time that someone clicks on one of the ads.

There are many ways to do find ways to make a little money with a site. The thing to keep in mind is that the amount of money that can be made is equivalent to the amount of traffic that you receive to the site. Good Luck.

Websites can generate money or cost savings to pay for their costs in a variety of ways:

1. Selling products

2. Directing customers to a business even if the website has no direct sales

3. provide customer support which reduces the costs of paying people to answer phone calles

4. generating web traffic to other websites through pay-per-click links (yahoo does this a lot)

5. advertising

6. government funded websites (government, schools, library websites etc)

7. donation funded websites

8. offering some free services to attract customers but charging a membership fee for premium features

9. I'm sure there's more creative ways to pay for websites

The website most likely has products for sale

Most of them don't. But subscriptions would be one way.
