How can i find where our domain name was originally registered?

Google "WHOIS lookup" for an on-line tool. The WHOIS look up should be free and not require any personal information from you, otherwise it is a scam website.

The current registrar is mentioned in the whois data:

Might be the technical contact. You can't get the last renew cost, but can view their standard sales pages figures. Most domain name are about $10 - $12 a year, it's a hassle to change registrars filling in all the contact information, the name server settings to connect to the host.

There are some old school registrars that could be charging you like $30 a year, that might be worth getting away from. Godaddy.com and namecheap.com are fairly popular, search for their name and coupon code, there are often incentives to new customers transferring names.

Look up the "whois" information on the domain. Search for "domain registration lookup" or just the domain and "whois"

This will give you the name of the registrant...you can go from there. It might be registered to a provider (if private) or to the individual who set it up (if public). Where is the site hosted? Locally?

The WHOIS info should tell you, I use this one as a rule:

http://whois.domaintools.com/

type in your domain and you should get the records.

You will need to get in touch with your current domain reg and get a release code to move it on to another registration service. You then have to make sure that your domain is still 'pointing' at your webserver.

Your server is the one that hosts your site and may be the same as your domain reg or may be from a different provider.

The link below discusses how to forward your domain to your host server

I've received a notice that I can renew our churches domain name through any company. How do I find out where and when and what it cost when we set it up in the first place? There is nothing in the files.
