I think you could certainly make a very popular website, but I don't see how that idea could make you money. If your site gets enough attention, you could contact advertising places about having their ads displayed on your site. (You get paid for that). The best idea would be to have ads for places that promote healthy eating or exercise or self-happiness etc. (Take into consideration the monthly/ yearly costs of owning a .com domain or if you will use another website as a host for free)
Another way I suppose you could make money from the idea is if the website requires people to sign up as members (for free) and then you can temp them to buy a "premium membership" where they have access to extra secrets/ tips and ad free pages etc.
If you allow people to register as members and maybe give them a page where they can post their pictures, progress or problems - it will give them a reason to keep coming back.
If you establish a solid member base, you will have even more opportunities to make money as you can bribe them to donate by offering some sort of prizes.
It sounds like a great idea and has a huge potential to help people, you'll just really have to think about how you could make money. Props for losing all that weight by the way, hard work is not fun.

I had a weight loss site in my portfolio once and sold affiliate products on it and did okay.
It sounds like you are passionate about weight loss and you are right, Americans are obese! But you would not have to limit your site just to the US. as you want to reach as broad an audience as possible to whom you can not only share your passion and story with but also educate them in addition to marketing to them!
Just remember to be human, produce unique (no copyright infringements counsel), informative, engaging, and even funny (at times) content for your audience.
You will need to be careful how you monetize your site. You can have a few Adsense ads on there. If you have an eBook that you have the rights to then you can offer it as a gift to anyone who subscribes to your newsletter and then market to your list. You can also have a Clickbank product on there and do weight loss product reviews.
So yes, you can make money from a weight loss site--otherwise there would be no weight loss sites!
There are also many other ways to get your message out the masses like social media, images, videos and more. Thank goodness for the internet huh? Be as diverse as your time, resources and budget will allow.

Ok so over the past year and a half I have been dedicated to change my life. I once weighed over 315 lbs and am not down to 225lbs. I did it all with hard work and eating right, no steroids!! I am now building muscle and looking to start playing some college football. I am 21 almost 22 and will have my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice in December 2012. My question is does anyone think I can make a website, and incorporate my knowledge of weight loss to make some money and help people achieve what I have? I have been told by former high school classmates and people who work out at the gym with me that I should start to market myself. All help is HIGHLY appreciated. I just read an article that said by 2030 over 50% of America will be OBESE and I want to try and help prevent that!!
