Either way, you are going to learn plenty in your internship, even if you don't go into property dev't. I'd urge you to do the internship no matter what.
No.
1) the property business is even more cutthroat than most, largely because the amount of capital involved on a per unit basis.
2) you've got to be good at business in general to even have a hope. If you're only maybe starting an internship now, then you're not likely to succeed yet; if at all. You either need to be very smart and qualified, or a very naturally talented entrepreneur. You are neither right now.
3) Unshakeable belief in yourself. You don't seem to have enough.
4) Purpose. "I've been willing to try" as though your involvement in the industry is some significant favour to everyone else involved. It isn't, unless you get fleeced by a seller or contractor.
5) knowledge. The sector having poor projections is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a good thing if not everyone knows about it. You wait for that bad patch to hit, and that's when you get in there. Then wait. Buy low, sell high.
reply 2 ShinsFortress:
Ok your reply seems more judgmental than insightful.
Firstly, by willing I meant that I was proactively searching for an opportunity to gain hands on experience and finally after a few months this internship position became available.
Secondly, I do have unshakable belief in MYSELF, I might not have the same degree of certainty in regards to this particular industry per say. (That's pretty much explains the reason behind this post tbh).
I also don't sound extremely "passionate" because I haven't tried it yet! And I'd rather not make early assumptions as many other kids do in order to find themselves being disappointed later on because "it's not what they thought". I prefer to be more realistic about it and try things in practice.
As to my intelligence level, I currently have a few internship offers at my desk, all from central London-based companies... and that being an international student, whilst many locals haven't arranged at least one option for themselves...
I welcome any to-the-point advice of yours.
You are on the UK site and there are no internships in property development here.
Developers have spare cash to buy properties, do them up and sell at a profit.
So where are you?
UK
I've been willing to try property dev for a while and now I might get an internship position (I'm still at uni). However I have been doing my research on the industry and many people sound quite discouraging in regards to whether the industry will provide decent earning opportunities, how badly crises have affected the market, how property developers are not making any profits these days etc.
After hearing all those "scary" stories I became doubtful if I should invest my time into this business or focus on another industry instead (I also have another opportunity in logistics/freight forwarding sector).
I mean the main purpose of taking this internship is to find out if this is something I wanna do after graduation... but if projections for the property dev sector are so pessimistic, would you say it makes sense to try it in the first place?
I need your advice on this one... preferably from those who familiar/work in the filed.
Thank you!
