SSI - Dorm Rent and Food?

Update: SSI = Supplement Security Income. Not Social Security Income.

Are you sure you qualify for this? What is your disability? There is a monthly limit amount - which can be offset by employment or other assets.

You have to prove a disability with medical records and prove you can't do any gainful activity - which I would suspect a job and college means you CAN do gainful activity. Mostly SSI is for people over 65 and blind and/or also disabled with very limited income and resources.

Don't want to rain on your parade but getting SSI is doubtful.

SSI is for the elderly or disabled. What exactly are your disabilities?

You say you are going to college, and have a job. Which obviously proves that your 'disabilities' do not significantly affect you. Which means you are not eligible for SSI.

Work like the rest of us did to put ourselves through college. SSI is for retired people that have paid into the system, with a few exceptions as indicated in an earlier answer.

If you qualify for SSI they have a set amount. You pay for your college like everyone else.

If you can work and go to College, you will not be able to get SSI.

College students do not qualify for SSI. (welfare)

frankly I am surprised you qualified for welfare at all.

All student assistance is based on your parents income.

I just turned 18 in july and applied for SSI will they be able to help pay for dorm rent? I have a goal of leaving my parents house and living on my own, but my job doesn't pay enough to provide for Dorm and I don't qualify for loans as my parents make enough money but they wont pay for any of my college expensices. Would ssi be able to help the 700$ I have to pay for room and board? I live in iowa. Would there be any other agincies that would help with a disabled student trying to live on his own if ssi doesn't help with this?? again im in iowa. thanks
