Landlord still charging rent when I moved out, right or wrong?

In this case grandma is correct.

In your statement, I, at first, thought.since you have moved out, why should you be required to continue to pay rent?

You have not completely moved out. You still have some of your stuff in the condo, thus you must pay rent for not moving completely out and not turning the keys over to your grandmother.

In actuality she do not have full access to the rental unit until you give her the key.

You are in actuality and legally still residing there, therefore you would have to pay the rent for the entire month.

When your grandmother told you that only half month rent would be due, she thought you would be completely out of the rental unit to include all your personal items and would have turned in the key.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

"FIGHT ON"

How can you say you have vacated the house when your belongings are still there. Have handed over the house key to the Land Lord ? You have to pay the rent

If your stuff is still there, then you have not in fact moved out and vacated the premises. You're just not sleeping there. You owe the rent.

Your stuff is there, hence you occupy the unit, hence you owe rent. She can't re-rent it with your crap in it. If your stuff is there.....you aren't moved out.

according to your states laws she might be able to until you legally put in your 30 or required "notice of intent to vacate."

Find laws on your states department of consumer affairs" under landlord tenant laws how tool's are there also.

If your things are still in the apartment, you still owe rent. Pay up.

Yes, grandma is correct. Your stuff is still in the condo, so in effect you are still occupying it.

"but my stuff is still there" - Then you are still occupying it. Pay the rent until you get everything out.

If your stuff is still there, then you are" in residence". Rent is still due.

she insisted, you demanded....you win, don't for gget to pay the lady

My landlord (its my grandma, she owns our condo) is still charging me rent and maintenance fees when I moved out several weeks ago but my stuff is still there. She is selling the place & we are buying a house but have about a week to close on it (hopefully). She told me last month to only pay half a month's rent when I insisted on paying the entire amount. A few weeks later, she demanded the other half of the rent. Is she correct in doing this?

You have not moved out, you are just staying somewhere else... moving out happens when one moves all their possessions out.

if your stuff is there, you owe and can be forced to pay.

Only if you are on a lease.
