Is it illegal to lie on online surveys?

No, it's not illegal at all. Those surveys are really just rubbish. Unless it's something conducted by the government, you're not going to get in trouble.

Why take the chance of losing the points you'd gain?

Don't worry about it.

Bad survey data might result in some bad product designs hitting the market.

No - lie your head off - it's the American Way. Lies are covered by 1st Amendment (freedom of speech).

In fact FOX "News" went to court to gain the right to lie in their fake "News" broadcasts.

Illegal or not, tell the truth.

Like, let's say there's a game that will give you more points if you complete an online survey. Would it be illegal to lie? Normally I would just brush it aside and say "Well, it's just a game", but the type of points you get for completing the survey is equivalent to real money, in the sense that you can buy it with real money, y'know? Thoughts?
