Your biggest advantage is not having the restrictions of Facebook, there are some limits to what commercial activities can go on there. You can also shape your own site to have more unique characteristics than a Facebook page. More often than not a company facebook page is for customer relations or making first contact with prospects before they are sent to the company site.
I think its important to have both a website and a facebook page for the best chance of getting people to recognize you/your company/whatever your trying to introduce. In addition to these its also a good idea to be a part of other social media and networking sites as well such as Linkedin, Win-Wiin USA, Instagram etc., in order to gain as much recognition as possible.

depends on the traffic you get to your websites so if you get more backlinks to your site than facebook then it will be more effective if not then your site will be unless effective. so it all comes back down to having backlinks
