Well it seem you got a very high quote, however hosting depends on many factors like the kind of site you are using, the amount of traffic your site is getting per day, how many sites that you are running on the same server.
It is you who have to ask yourself, there are hosting plan available in the market from shared hosting to dedicated hosting. A shared hosting will be a better solution for any new website or for those website receiving traffic less than 1000 per day and will cost some where between 4 to 7 dollars a month.
If you looking for a reliable hosting company I would always suggest to purchase you hosting from Hostgator. I also provide free installation service visit my link below or you can also get in touch with on gtalk or skype.
For that kind of money, you should be getting Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting. That's where a server is set up to look like half a dozen (or so) servers, each with completely separate access.
What they're almost certainly giving you is shared hosting, where they have dozens or hundreds of shared accounts on one server, which should cost one quarter of that.
The reality is that they're making some of the money on hosting. Think about which is better for your company: front-loading all the costs into the up-front design fee, or in increased hosting fees over time.
if your company is going to sink or swim within a year, perhaps an extra 200 pounds a year is better than a much increased design fee.
I can design your site for $200 and you can pay as less as $10 a month to host. Message me to get started, i can make sample sites for you so you can chose which one you'd like !
Hosting is cheap. Host it yourself or demand that their prices includes at least one hour of maintenance per month.

£200? thats outrageous. You could even buy a dedicated server and start your own hosting company!
That's WAY OVER what you should be paying please don't pay it!!! Anyone can host your site! Just ring round a few local to you. Depends what your hosting needs but average is £90
I have just received a quote to design my companies new website. i know for a fact it's a good designer. £900 to design the site and £200 a year to host the site. Who desides the price of the hosting? Do you think I could get them to take that price down?
