Most Russians are poor and ignorant and know nothing of democracy or the Western way of life. They only ever want to be ruled over by a Tzar figure - a Putin.
Russia is almost poverty stricken already and the situation will just go on getting worse. Spiteful Putin has banned the import of EU foodstuffs into Russia - and this means that the few well of Russians who are used to quality foods from France, Spain, Italy and etc are going to be really unhappy.
The Russian people want to travel into the EU but they are going to find things far from good when they arrive next Summer. They have few friends here and they just clutter the resorts up leaving piles of trash behind them - grubby and untidy is how they are. Go back to Russia and stay there.
Who is "everyone"? Russia has no intention to "invade" anywhere. The U.S. warned them away from the border weeks ago and Obama mobilized NATO on the Polish border. Russia would only be in eastern Ukraine to defend the people there who are being killed by Poroshenko, the new "beast of the Ukraine".
Only foolish people in Britain and America believe what their corporate media and government tells them. The U.S. is more likely to invade somewhere than Russia. The U.S. has to portray Russia as threatening even though it is the Kiev regime who uses brutal tactics against Russian speakers there and American P.R. about Russia.

Nick: The Russian perspective is not a "story". The U.S. has a slick public opinion machine. If any government is not to be believed it is the U.S. which fabricates evidence as we all know. I dont see how you can even think the U.S. has merit after all we have seen.
Crimea was a historically Russian territory that was ceded, essentially, as a gift. Russia has always had important military bases in the region that gives it access directly into the Black Sea. As the region destabilized Russia reclaimed the land.
It might seem scary to forcefully take back this land, but why assume that Russia is now going to enter Ukraine? The closest I see to such a thing happening is if they support the pro-Russians enough that they can put a puppet-leader in Ukraine.
I don't see Russia declaring war on Ukraine and claiming it as Russian land.
Otherwise, the Russian side of the story is that the US is luring Russia into economical conflict. Both ends of the extreme seem far-fetched, but I suppose there's no way of truly knowing.
They fear the -rebirth of Soviet Union who was equal to US in power. Putin already has Georgia. He has Kazahstan and Belarus Treaties. Now Ukraine. Estonia and Latvia should be easy. He is getting there.
It is sort of the way Hilter started WW2 by annexing parts of other counties, this is relly serious. Putin is an evil war monger, very Stalin like.
I'm not... in fact I'm staying here, in Kiev, and waiting for them. So are tens of millions of other citizens of Okraine.
