Because it is a 'fizzy drink'. But in real talk, its just what the people in his/her hometown call it. Or parents. idk. lol
Only Americans use it as a complete term for all fizzy drinks. In the UK we have Soda Water (a carbonated fizzy water) or a fizzy drink called 'Cream Soda'. In Scotland some of us older ones still ask for 'a bottle of ginger.
If you ask for soda in the UK you would be likely to get a glass of soda water - carbonated water or Cream Soda, a sort of lemonade. Soda is an America word for fizzy drink. No Brit would ask for a soda and expect a Coke!
Soda is what Americans day in the UK we call is a fizzy drinks because obviously it's fizzy
Most people will say "fizzy drink" is soda more of an american word
Because it is, isn't it? It's a drink, and it's fizzy. Soda is an American word.
Where I grew up it was called a soft drink but if calling it a fizzy drink offends you, say carbonated drink
Soda is an American term. We say fizzy drink in UK.
Here in UK since we invented fizzy drinks we have a very wide variety of such drinks. We also have one which we call Soda Water, this is used in Scotch or Irish Whiskey instead of plain water.
