It all dates back 20 plus years, today Liverpool is a great city with a vibrancy that is above a good number of other UK cities. The images of the toxteth riot etc run deep in the 50+ generation. My wife is from Liverpool and we travel back regularly and never once have I been in the slightest concerned.
Funny thing is that crowds in Liverpool are generally good natured noisy untidy but good natured. After a big event you will see them queuing quietly for transport and taxis with no bother. Liverpool and Everton fans may well insult one another but even that is good natured. This is partly because if Dad supports Liverpool at least one of his sons will support Everton. I myself am not a football supporter but when I started work I was asked what team did I support. I said Everton partly because it was the only team I could think of off hand and I like the colour blue> This ties in with the Liverpool sneer that Evertonians know nothing about football
You will get that from people who have never been or have only been years ago........anyone who knows the city knows it is great, with fabulous history, buildings and people and like EVERYWHERE else there are good and bad parts
...and no I am not a Liverpudlian, but a Midlander but have spent many memorable times in Liverpool over many years and always kick myself each time I am going into or out of Liverpool/Berkenhead that I have not booked a couple of nights there, so have to console myself with the wonderful Liverpool buildings skyline from the ferry
Yes. You are the dopey lot who thought Derek Hatton was a suitable person to take charge of the council funds, and then all started scratching your backsides in wonderment when he spent the lot on suits and sacked the workforce. You spend all day running in and out of each others houses with each others possessions in your hands or stuffing TV's into Wheelie bins. You gave us Cilla Black and Cherie Blair and the Bulger murderers. They ought to put a wall round the city like they used to have around Berlin.

I don't get it either, but then I've BEEN there for business reasons. But Liverpool has a bad image for some reason. Perhaps it is just uppity types? I've never yet met a Scouser I didn't like.
It has stereotypes attached, like almost every other city in the UK. I am from Liverpool and I hear the stereotypes all the time. Am I offended? Nope, I am pretty proud of my heritage and some middle-class Tory will not tell me otherwise!
The Capital of Ireland
It's got a bloody ridiculous, and completely unfair stereotype attached to it, about all Scousers- (Liverpudlians), being thieving bastards- (and that theory's completely untrue!)
They are just IGNORANT..Is rooted in anti Catholic prejudice with many ,I have found...The IMAGE is getting BETTER & BETTER....
