What is the best way to spend 10 days in select cities in Europe?

I have 10 days to spend in the following European cities: Paris, Venice, Rome/Vatican City, Athens, Barcelona (?). What amount of time should I devote to each city?

Paris, Rome and Venice would be possible in 10 days. You could spend 4 days in Paris, take the overnight train to Venice and stay for 2 days and then take the train to Rome for 4 days. This maximizes your time sightseeing in the three cities since you travel between Paris and Venice while you sleep. You also don't have to get a hotel that night. You arrive in Venice about 6 am. A fast train between Venice and Rome takes 3 hr 45 min

You won't be able to do all of that in 10 days and see anything

In 10 days you could do Paris, Venice and Rome and still not see what you wanted to see in those cities. If you are going by train it takes 5 hours on average between Venice and Rome. Paris to Venice takes about 17 hours by train. If you don't want to fly it's minimum 30 hours of travel time between Rome and Athens if you rely on ferries and train/bus

You need to narrow it down to what is most important for you to see. You could easily spend a week in either Rome or Paris and still not see everything you wanted to see

In Rome/Vatican City spend 3 days, Barcelona 2, Madrid 2, Paris 2, and London 2 days.

I would say narrow it down to two. All of those are fantastic cities to visit, but in order to do them justice, you would have to spend a reasonable amount of time. Then you can appreciate what they have to offer, see the famous things, and get off the beaten track. Personally, I would recommend Paris and Barcelona, but it really depends on what you are interested in. Pick the 2 destinations which most resonate with you.

Spend 3 days in Rome, other 3 days Madrid some 2 days Paris and the last 2 days in London...i am sorry,i cant think of anything better..

That's a lot to see in 10 days!

You're better off doing it geographically. Maybe France/Spain or Italy/Greece.

You'd spend so much time travelling you wouldn't see anything in 10 days if you tried to do all of that.

As it takes a full day to travel between cities, you will have only one day per city - which is a bit pointless. Limit your choices to two cities only, perhaps Rome and Venice. Only a few hours travel time between the two, extra time in Rome will allow you to devote a full day to the Vatican Museums and St Peter's Basilica.

10 days? Two cities, max. Any more is just going to be a blur, and horrible.

And stop thinking that Europe is a country, it isn't.

Why only capitals? There are more interesting places

Two days in ev'ry :)
