As Michel says, Sweden is big. The train ride from Stocholm to Kiruna is 18 hours, and you still haven reached the far North then.
If you are in or near Stockholm, there are wonderful things to do that are very representative of Sweden, just near you.
1. Stockholm archipelago -30,000 islands - take a boat ride out, maybe stay overnight - a truly alive natural world - one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
2. Stockholm the city - see the very modern part and the very old part
3. Outing to the countryside - Skokloster Palace - Gustav Wrangel's "summer cottage" represents the days when Sweden controlled a huge part of Europe - see ancient Viking rune stones by the road on the way there
Sweden is big. How do you intend to travel? On which side are you now? What does your girlfriend like? Is she sporty?
As a Norwegian living very close to the Swedish border, I have spent many holidays in that country but ... in the summer. I am not sure what are typical winter activities if it isn't ... skiing.
If you live on the east coast, try to tour the island of ?land. If you are in G?teborg, drive north-west along the Bohusl?n coast. Try Str?mstad and take the ferry to the Koster islands. Marstrand is also a nice place along that coast and so is Fj?llbacka. If you live up north, say Kiruna, then you must cross the border and see the Norwegian Lofoten. But then ... in the winter? You will barely have some day light. Scandinavia is best during the summer.
Why don't you invest in a good travel guide book to Sweden and read it before she comes? That way you'll have all the information you need readily available.
i think walking and riding a car through limitless northern spaces is the best way to have good time in sweden.
