Is London Underground safe to use at night?

Generally it is safe but you should take standard precautions to help ensure your own safety.

All stations are well provided with high quality cctv so make sure that you are always in view of a camera. This is easy: if you can see the camera lens then it can see you. They are always monitored.

Almost all LU stations are brightly lit but there are still some dark corners in a few. Don't enter dim or unlit parts of a station. If you must pass through a dim section of tunnel then don't stop or linger there.

Give tramps, drunks and obviously dodgy people a wide berth.

Stay with the group as much as possible, muggers don't pick on crowds. You can protect your valuables against pickpockets in the same way that you would in any crowd.

If the station has a choice of exits use a "popular" exit if there are lots of people around, rather than the one nearest where you would normally want to be if that one is "deserted".

When you enter the station look out for Help Points and alarm buttons. Then stand close to one.

When you are on the train use a carriage that already has people in it (unless it's someone clearly suspicius - see above). Sit by the Alarm button/lever.

Avoid stations in places where you would not want to be on the surface at night. A lot depends on what sort of place is above ground. This might be somewhere "south of the river" (as the taxi drivers say). It's not really possible to give you a list because if you need to travel to a place then you have no choice - you would need to know whether it's in a part of the city that should normally be avoided if you can.

Try and avoid pub chuck out times (eg between 11 & 12 pm). This doesn't necessarily mean danger but it can be unpleasant. After 12 pm the system starts running down and trains can become noticebly scarcer so you may have to wait longer on a platform.

It's VERY safe. I used to live in London. Obviously don't do anything silly like have your bag unzipped....as you would expect that would be asking for trouble....but Yes it's very safe, packed with tourists and commuters.

All human life can be found on London's underground system. Day & night.

Yes it's usually safe.

Yes it is safe. It is crowded with passengers and there are cameras on the trains and at all stations

Yes very safe - there are help links on every platform on every Tube station - they look like this. . . . .https://www.google.com/search?site=&tbm=...

Also there are CCTV cams everywhere on all the platforms and in stations entrances etc.

This link gets you the latest crime stats for the London Underground (Tube).
