The countries I would suggest are Costa Rica and Belize.
Costa Rica is the best country in terms of Human Development and it has the best of both worlds, bordering the Atlantic and Pacific. The economy is stable and it's much less violent than it's neighbours. The country also has a lot of ancient structures such as the world's largest cart and some ancient ruins especially in the jungle. The country does not experience any hurricanes as it's far away from all that commotion. I believe this is perfect as it is also an extremely green country and preserves most of it's structures! Have fun!
Belize too, is another really good country. It is the lest dense populated country in Central America and it's national language is English unlike it's Hispanic neighbours, so you won't have much trouble communicating with the locals. Belize also has loads of ancient pyramids and giant Mayan structures. It is also mostly jungle and green until you hit the beach, so it too is very natural and picturesque. The country borders the Atlantic Ocean and is another magnificent Caribbean country with loads to offer and beautiful coffee! Have fun!
Make sure your Spanish is up to date no matter where you go and have loads of fun! Congratulations on your marriage!! =D
personally speaking, i've been to roatan and the rest of honduras!!
best trip of my life. roatan was just beautiful. its 3 small islands off the north coast of Honduras. Let's jsut start with... its completely different from the rest of the country.
It reminded me of hawaii a lot. the locals are mostly born and breed there on the island. Not many mainlands live or work on the islands.
Its currency is in American money. the scuba diving and coral is the best in central america. i was even able to go swimming with the dolphins.
and its very safe. but like any foreign land you need to be careful of pickpocketers. The crime rate is high in the main land, not in Roatan.
If not, then why would so many celebrities visit and have homes there? Cameron Diaz, Arnold schwarzenegger
GO! its beautiful and secluded! without all those pesky tourists!
You really have two options Cozumel in Mexico or Roatan in Honduras. Mexico should be cheaper and it would be safer as well-- Honduras the country, has a violent crime rate three times higher than Mexico. However, both Cozumel and Roatan are safer than the rest of their respective countries as a whole. Belize has diving and some Mayan ruins but no pyramids or large complexes to my knowledge. I know Mexico is not technically Central America but if you look on the map Cozumel is not very far from Belize and Roatan--just a little further north.
Hi Chris,
Roatan Island in Honduras is not a bad choice, but you should look at Belize which has hands down the best scuba diving in the Americas.
Have a great honeymoon.
Hello, i would highly recommend Costa Rica it is absolutely beautiful there and has not only beautiful beaches, but great jungles, amazing wildlife, and the people there are super friendly! Please visit :)
I will be getting married in June and am trying to plan our honeymoon. We're interested in a nice beach setting to get some good scuba diving in. We'd also like to see the cultural portion of the area to such as the cities, jungle, or pyramids.
I'm having difficulty finding a coastal city or island where I can find all of this for a reasonable price. The closest thing I've found is roatan, Honduras.
Any recommendations?
