The answer above me is wrong
Sri Lanka have a 98 % literacy rate
Its nothing to do with SL rupee vs Ind rupee ask from those who have been there Sri Lanka is more expensive (Japan YEN is less than Indian rupee but that doesnt make it less expensive)
0.700 HDI
78 yr life expectancy
Average income $7500(ppp) / $3500(norminal) per annum
India , Pak and Bangla are not even 1/3 of that
much cleaner and much organised
only 5% under 1$ per day poverty line compared to 40% in rest of the s.asia (its 35% in India)
8% gdp growth rate
Sri Lanka is much developed than and has less poverty than the rest of S.Asia and u `ll see that when u go there
Sri Lankans are the friendliest people in Asia by far
EDIT -
Sri Lankans look neither like North or South Indians
South Indians look similar to Sri Lankan tamils (not only the skin colour , even the features )
Sri Lanka`s main ethnic group (Sinhalese) is darker than North Indians (but not dark as tamils or South Indians) and also taller and well built compared to Indians(both South and North).Less hairy too
No point in typing in Hindi coz Sri Lankans don`t speak Hindi..We speak Sinhalese and English
Also Sri Lanka is bit expensive than India..
First of all, i'm not sure how they would react as my parents are from Sri Lanka and they know the culture and language... I'm sure if you go to the right place, the locals will be very welcoming... $1.00 in Australia would be around 100 rupees in Sri Lanka and most things are under around 1000- $10.00... Take as much as you think you will need... Possibly more in case you have an emergency or spend too much!
Have a great time, its an awesome little island!
If you are Indian Sri Lanka has the same prices as in India. If you want a luxury trip you will have to bring a lot of money if not you dont need to bring so much money.Sri Lankans and North Indians look the same lol
